"Many people who have health insurance on the job blindly pay every week for coverage that would actually cost them less--sometimes much less--if they went out on their own and bought individual policies," says economist Paul Zane Pilzer," author of The New Health Insurance Solution (Wiley, 2005). As a good rule of thumb, says Pilzer, the higher your deductible the less you'll spend overall on health insurance. Keep this in mind if you decide to go with a PPO. "It makes perfect sense," says Pilzer. "Insurance companies hate paperwork almost as much as you do." "Most families will find that the HSA is a good financial deal," says Pilzer. |
